After owning a store, Maine Jewelry & Art, in downtown Bangor, for over 12 years, I can say most definitely that public bathrooms are very much needed. Many mornings I’d find urine in our doorway, and actually see on our video cameras people publicly urinating or defecating as well. Our dumpster out back had become a public toilet and had to be removed due to this issue.
Then there was the morning that human feces was on our sidewalk outside the store, a whole lot of it. We could not open the store and had to wait over four hours for the city to deal with it.
This to me is a public health matter and must be addressed right now. I strongly support placing the public bathrooms as designated in the current proposal.
