Maine has set a whopper whoopie pie record.
On June 9, 2023, ambitious Mainers lined up 2,121 whoopie pies outside Hadlock Field in Portland, according to the Center Theatre for the Performing Arts in Dover-Foxcroft.
That event was organized by the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival, Portland Sea Dogs and Wicked Whoopies, which provided the sweets.
Now the Guinness Book of World Records has confirmed it as the longest line of whoopie pies, marking the first whoopie pie-related record acknowledged by the organization.
“We know that Maine put Whoopie Pies on the map and now, for the first time, Maine has put whoopie pies in the Guinness Book of World Records,” said Patrick Myers, executive director of the Center Theatre and an organizer of the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival.
As part of the event, the Sea Dogs took the field as the Maine Whoopie Pies when they faced off against the Akron RubberDucks. The Sea Dogs will take the field again as the Maine Whoopie Pies against Akron on June 7.
The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival is slated to begin on June 22 in Dover-Foxcroft. That will include a celebration of the new world record.
