The Augusta Police Department’s deputy chief, Kevin Lully, has been picked to serve the new chief of police, the city announced Friday in a news release.
The 52-year-old resident of China had been serving as interim chief since Chief Jared Mills retired late last year (Mills is set to succeed Susan Robertson as Augusta city manager), according to the Kennebec Journal. Lully will be paid about $130,000 a year, the newspaper reported.
Lully, who is originally from Aroostook County, has been in law enforcement for 29 years, with 28 years served within the Augusta Police Department starting as a patrol officer and including stints as field officer, court/records officer, detective before serving as deputy chief, according to the city.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science and an associate degree in criminal justice from the University of Maine at Presque Isle and recently completed certificate programs from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and the FBI National Academy.
Lully also participates with several local organizations including the Maine Special Olympics, The Augusta Downtown Alliance, Family Fun Night and National Night Out.
