A 30-year-old Leeds man has been charged with murdering a Windham man who went missing almost a year ago.
Police arrested Joseph Chute on Friday night, and he went into custody without incident, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
His arrest was tied to the disappearance of 34-year-old Alex Jackson of Windham, who was reported missing by his parents since May 12, 2023. Jackson’s body still has not been found, Moss said.
Chute was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail, where he’s being held without bail. He’ll make an initial appearance Monday in Androscoggin County Superior Court.
The case was investigated by the Maine and New Hampshire state police, the Androscoggin Sheriff’s Office, and the police departments in Lewiston and Windham, according to Moss.
