LEWISTON, Maine — Lewiston’s city administrator has resigned, effective immediately.
Friday night, city leaders held a special meeting with the city attorney in attendance to announce the immediate resignation of City Administrator Heather Hunter.
City councilors voted 5-1 to accept the immediate resignation.
Originally, she submitted a 30-day notice Thursday evening, though that changed Friday.
Lewiston’s spokesperson did not confirm with CBS 13 why Hunter submitted her resignation letter or why she decided to resign immediately.
There’s been a recent wave of turnover at city hall.
They’ve faced some public scrutiny in recent months following staffing decisions and the temporary closure of DaVinci’s Eatery back in January.
City councilors put out a statement about the resignation.
“The city council has agreed with reluctance to accept the resignation of Administrator Hunter. We appreciate her years of service to the city and wish her the best.”
Deputy Administrator Brian O’Malley has been selected as the acting administrator while they search nationwide to fill the position.
CBS 13 put in a request for Hunter’s resignation letter. We have yet to hear back.
