PORTLAND, Maine —When it comes to rain, many records were broken in the Portland area during March.
March was a few degrees above average temperature-wise, and that trend looks to continue through April.
Let’s recap on this past rainy month.
The maximum temperature in March was 55 degrees, which occurred on March 3 and March 17. The entirety of the month was 2 degrees above average.
The minimum low temperature was 13 degrees on March 1.
As for snow, the Portland Jetport recorded 5.7 inches of snow, which is 7.9 inches below the normal of 13.6 inches.
The big story is the amount of rain that Mainers have seen. Eighteen out of 28 days thus far have seen a trace of precipitation.
As of Friday afternoon, 11.07 inches of rain has fallen in Portland. This has put the Portland area in 2024 second all-time for the wettest March on record. This data dates back to 1871.
A big warm-up is on the way as we transition into the new month on Monday.
April 1 typically averages in the upper 40s, with lows in the low 30s. By the end of the month, expect temperatures to average 60 degrees, a number we have not seen since last year.
Just under 4.5 inches of rain is expected over the month, with an average snowfall of 2.8 inches.
