The Hermon School Department’s superintendent submitted his resignation Monday night.
Superintendent Micah Grant’s resignation was accepted by the school committee during a meeting, Chairwoman Stephanie Oiler said Tuesday. Grant told the committee he was resigning for personal reasons, Oiler said.
He will finish out the school year, which will end in June, she said.
“We’re very saddened by the resignation of Superintendent Grant,” Oiler said. “It’s going to be a huge loss to our district, and we’re very thankful for the years of service.”
The terms of Grant’s resignation were discussed in executive session and not disclosed when the committee returned to a public meeting, Oiler said at the meeting, in a video shared on Facebook by school committee candidate Regina Leonard.
Grant started as interim superintendent in April 2022 before being appointed to the position within a couple months. He previously served as the Hermon Middle School principal and worked as a teacher as well.
He spent 14 years with the department in various roles, including as a coach, he said at the meeting. Grant did not immediately respond to a phone call and email seeking comment.
During the meeting Grant thanked his wife for her support during challenging moments during his tenure, and said he was sad to leave but that he was excited for his next steps.
“Hermon students are the best, and I am forever grateful to them for their impact on my life,” Grant said.
The department will work with Maine School Management to find a new superintendent, Oiler said. There isn’t yet a timeframe for finding a replacement, she said.
