State and federal leaders unveiled a new electric vehicle charging station at the Rockland Hannaford on Tuesday.
It’s the first one in Maine funded by President Joe Biden’s infrastructure law.
Federal Highway Administrator Shailen Bhatt said it’s important to put charging stations in places like this to make it convenient for electric vehicle users and also get more drivers to go electric.
“I think these are going to be the first of many to come. There’s going to be hundreds of charging ports in the next couple of years. I think with any new technology, there’s early adopters like the congresswoman who back in 2011 will drive 35 miles on my electric battery but now there are batteries that can go hundreds of miles on a charge,” Bhatt said.
State leaders said that there are plans to put chargers in Bangor, Augusta, Houlton and a few other towns.
