Thank you to the Bangor Daily News for the column, “Climate action causes more harm than good for Mainers” by Jacob Posik on Thursday, March 14. I thought all common sense was lost forever. Sometimes when you’re standing too close to a mural, you can’t see the big picture.
To quote world-renowned geologist John Weissenberger, “Even the cataclysmic asteroid strike that wiped out the dinosaurs 66 million years ago filling the atmosphere with planet circling debris shows up today as a one to two centimeter layer in the Earth’s crust. Such facts suggest that even the most significant human endeavors won’t have world altering importance, but be more like a geological ‘grease spot.’” Just 12,000 years ago, Chicago was under feet of ice — that’s a blink of an eye in geological chronology.
I don’t know what the percentage of mankind is that wants to ride herd over everyone else. But my guess is it hasn’t changed much in the history of mankind. The only difference now is the internet and social media gives them the last tool they need in their toolbox to get it done. May God help us.
