BANGOR — Falling Through the Trap Door – A Life in Theatre that Tried to Kill Me. Several Times!
Travis G. Baker spent 45 years in the theatre crawling around catwalks in Texas, getting murdered in Scotland, writing plays in a New Jersey basement, and falling through trap doors in Maine. He is an award-winning playwright who recently retired from the theatre and took up stand-up comedy.
As a comic, Travis has traveled to breweries across the state of Maine from York to Madawaska, bombed in New England’s Funniest Comic Competition and redeemed himself during the Portland Comedy Festival. He continues to perform in the Bangor area when weather permits.
The evening will be part stand-up, part Jeopardy, and part memoir as Travis recounts his humble school play beginnings being mentored by Edward Albee at the University of Houston, writing his first play (starring Jim Parsons) and moving to New York to intern at the Signature Theatre Company. Tales will be told about working with such notables as Arthur Miller, Peter Faulk, Horton Foote, Kevin Bacon’s brother-in-law, Lauren Becall and Holly Twining who he met doing a show and somehow what was supposed to be a two-week fling has lasted 22 years.
There will be tales of Maine and our nineteen years of life here raising boys, dogs and five productions at the Penobscot Theatre Company, a couple acting stints with Ten Bucks and why I’ve decided to retire.
