A South Berwick man on Tuesday pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to theft of mail by a postal carrier.
Russell Joaquin, 48, was accused of opening greeting cards from his delivery route in South Berwick and Eliot and stealing the contents, including cash and gift cards, according to court records.
Joaquin admitted the crime to an investigator from the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General and handed over Vanilla Visa, Home Depot, Amazon and McDonald’s gift cards that he had taken, according to court records.
He faces up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and up to three years of supervised release.
