An early morning fire that severely damaged a seasonal section of the Senator Inn in Augusta on Friday was accidental, the state fire marshal’s office said in a news release.
The Augusta Fire Department responded to a fire at the inn on Western Avenue at about 12:30 a.m. The fire was in a detached 15-unit section of the inn called the “Governor’s Wing.”
Investigators from the fire marshal’s office determined that the blaze, which caused “significant damage” to the building, started in the attic.
The Governor’s Wing is only rented in the summer and was unoccupied at the time of the fire, according to the fire marshal’s office.
