Mainer Julia Gagnon survived two rounds of elimination this week to make it into the top 10 for the 22nd season of “American Idol.”
Gagnon, a 22-year-old Cumberland native and University of Southern Maine student, capped off a stellar two-show stint with a performance of country artist Zach Bryan’s “Something in the Orange” on the Monday night show, themed to number one Billboard hits.
Gagnon said she chose the song because sunsets remind her of loved ones that have passed away.
The night prior, Gagnon sang Whitney Houston’s “Run to You” on the Sunday episode, in a show themed to members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This year’s inductees to the Rock Hall were also announced on the show that night.
Gagnon is quickly rising through the ranks of the popular singing competition show, winning hearts with her story and wowing the public with her powerful voice. The next episodes of “American Idol” are set to air at 8 p.m. on Sunday and Monday, April 28 and 29.
