Hancock County deputies arrested a man on Friday after he allegedly stabbed a woman who called authorities to help him.
At about 4:51 a.m., a woman from Penobscot called Hancock County Regional Communications Center and reported that a man was experiencing a medical event, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Brian Archer said in a news release.
The line was abruptly disconnected 20 minutes into the call. Eight minutes later, a deputy arrived at the residence and discovered that the woman who had placed the call had been stabbed, Archer said. She told the deputy that the man, who was the subject of her distress call, had fled the house into a nearby wooded area.
She was brought to a local hospital with injuries that Archer said were not life threatening.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office sent more officers to search for the man, later identified as 33-year-old Michael Bakeman, whose town of residence was not immediately identified by police.
Bakeman eventually came out of the wood and was taken into custody without incident, Archer said. He was brought to a local hospital to be treated for injuries that police said were not life threatening.
Bakeman was charged with domestic violence elevated aggravated assault. After his medical clearance, he will be brought to Hancock County Jail, Archer said.
Police did not provide any additional information about the alleged medical event that prompted the initial call for help.
