WESTBROOK — By its very nature, Town & Country Federal Credit Union has a long history and familiarity of working with the color “green”. For Earth Week 2024, however, the credit union took its involvement with ‘green’ to a new level. The credit union made a $2,000 contribution as the exclusive supporter of Portland Trails’ Earth Week 2024 activities and celebration, and a team of TCFCU volunteers spent the morning of Thursday, April 25, helping to “green” up a portion of the Presumpscot River Trail in Westbrook. The crew joined a representative from Portland Trails in picking up litter, moved downed branches from the trail, brought in and spread loads of gravel and other trail clean-up and maintenance.
In addition to its support of Portland Trails, Town & Country is also utilizing the opportunity to share financial tips encouraging consumers to take an Earth Week approach to their finances including going paperless by receiving monthly statements and other financial forms electronically; setting up an account to save for energy efficient home improvements, such as windows, heating units and appliances; utilizing technology to perform transactions and other financial tasks, which helps save gas with fewer trips; and shopping local as doing so not only supports the local community but can also reduce emissions associated with transportation.
“We have deep roots in the communities we serve and part of that is a responsibility to not only providing financial services but to also be involved citizens in making our communities better places to live. Our partnership with Portland Trails, which also includes annual support for a portion of the Trail in Portland, underscores our ‘local helping local’ philosophy. We love partnering with Portland Trails to highlight Earth Week and to also help maintain the wonderful trail network that it has built in the Greater Portland area. This week and every week, green is one of our favorite colors,” remarked Jon Paradise, SVP of communications, marketing, and community outreach.
As Maine’s second-largest credit union with 40,000 members, Town & Country is a full-service financial institution offering a wide range of financial products and services to people who live, work, go to school, or worship in Cumberland and York Counties.
