The future of a new Mason’s Brewing Company brewery is unclear after the company put the building plans on hold.
The Brewer-based company had been planning to construct a new facility on the banks of the Androscoggin River, with plans announced in the summer of 2022. However, Mason’s has officially suspended the plan to bring a mixed bar and restaurant to Auburn, according to the Lewiston Sun Journal.
The decision to suspend the plan comes after the brewery opened a Down East location, located at 78 Main St. in Machias. The doors officially opened on April 24.
According to owner and brewer Chris Morley, the company hopes to circle back to opening an Auburn location sometime in the future, although details about the timeline were not made available.
Mason’s also has its sights set on expanding to making liquor in Bangor. The Bangor Planning Board issued preliminary approval for Mason’s Brewing Company to establish a distillery at 586 Main St., near the Fireside Inn & Suites, in November.
The city needs to approve a zoning change to that property before spirit production and distribution can begin at that location, according to Chris Morley, owner of Mason’s Brewing Co.
