A large number of police from several agencies convened on Route 139 in Unity, Monday afternoon, according to multiple news outlets.
The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police and Maine Forest Service rangers are involved.
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss, speaking at 3:10 p.m., said Maine State Police dispatched its tactical team and crisis negotiation team. At that time, Moss declined to speak further about the situation, saying that Waldo County Sheriff’s Office is currently the lead agency in the response.
The Bangor Daily News was not immediately able to reach anyone from the sheriff’s office or Waldo County Regional Communications Center who could speak about the situation.
Jim Britt, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, confirmed that forest rangers were at the scene. He did not immediately have more information.
