There’s a big illuminated X on the runway at Bangor International Airport.
That marks the temporary closure of the airport’s runway, according to officials.
The closure began at 8 a.m. Monday and will run through 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to Bangor International Airport.
That will be followed by closures from 8 a.m. May 13 to 3 p.m. May 15, and 8 a.m. May 21 to 3 p.m. May 22.
During those times, the runway length will be shortened, but airport officials said that the closures aren’t expected to affect travelers.
It’s part of a project to redo the runway, which typically needs to be done every 15 to 20 years. The project was supposed to begin late last month, but had to be delayed while Bangor International Airport awaited final approvals.
