A black bear dragged away a man’s body from a crashed car in western Massachusetts.
Daniel Ducharme, 31, of South Hadley, Massachusetts, was driving a 2016 Honda Civic south on Route 91 in Hatfield about 11 a.m. Sunday when he lost control of the vehicle, hit the guardrail, left the right side of the road, went down an embankment and struck several trees, according to CBS News.
Ducharme likely died in the crash, and police believe he was “fully or partially ejected” when the bear happened upon him, CBS News reported.
The bear dragged away Ducharme from the crash.
When Massachusetts state troopers arrived, they found Ducharme’s Honda in the woods and the bear stalking the scene.
The bear fled while state troopers worked the scene, according to CBS News.
The crash remains under investigation.
Hatfield is north of Springfield.
