Mainers glancing up at the night sky Friday were amazed to see the vibrant colors of the Northern Lights.
The aurora borealis was brought on by a significant solar storm and was visible across the northern United States Friday night. There may still be a chance to see the aurora on Saturday evening and early Sunday morning if the solar storm activity lingers in the atmosphere, though any remaining auroral activity will likely be far more muted.
The natural phenomenon can actually appear more vivid through a camera lens, which some Mainers took full advantage of. Check out these stunning photos from last night’s display.
