Four men who were charged in the death of a teen in Machias in November 2021 have received their sentences for their involvement in the fatal shooting.
Jorge Pagan-Sanchez, 41, of Taunton, Massachusetts, was charged with felony murder in connection with the Nov. 4, 2021, shooting death of 17-year-old Brandin Guerrero of Massapequa, New York.
Also charged were Nathanael Genao, 23, of New Bedford, Massachusetts; Nathaniel Kerruish, 23, of East Machias; 21-year-old Juan Ortiz of Concord, New Hampshire; and 30-year-old Emanuel Ramos of Roxbury, Massachusetts.
All four men from out of state were charged and arrested in weeks immediately following the shooting. Kerruish was charged in January 2022.
Guerrero was believed to be part of the Bloods gang in New York City and was in Machias to sell drugs, according to an affidavit filed by Maine State Police in Washington County Superior Court in Machias. Guerrero and Ramos work for rival drug gangs, and the men charged in the case planned an ambush of Guerrero, ostensibly to steal a backpack containing drugs that Guerrero was carrying.
Guerrero was shot shortly after midnight near a cemetery on High Street.
Genao was sentenced to serve 22 years in prison with all but 13 years suspended with 4 years of probation after pleading guilty to murder and robbery on January 17, 2023.
Pagan-Sanchez pleaded guilty to charges of murder and robbery on Jan. 4, 2023. He was sentenced on Tuesday to 15 years with all but 5 1/2 years suspended followed by four years of probation, CBS 13 reported.
Ortiz received a 40-year sentence, while Ramos was sentenced to 38 years in prison.
