There is a heavy police presence at the Hermon elementary school after “concerning” phone calls were made Wednesday afternoon.
Several concerning calls were made to the Hermon School Department, Superintendent Micah Grant said in a message to parents. There is a heavy police presence at the Patricia A. Duran School at 235 Billings Road out of an abundance of caution.
“There were some very shocking things said,” Grant told the Bangor Daily News. “We’re just calling it ‘phone calls of concern’ right now.”
Grant said no students or schools were named specifically, but the department opted to ask for a police presence, “especially at dismissal,” as a precaution. As of 4 p.m., he said teachers and staff were debriefing and school business had returned to normal.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office is handling the situation, Grant said.
