A local man has been charged with firing a gun at a Baileyville motel on Wednesday morning, drawing a large police response that intermittently closed part of Route 1 in the Washington County community.
Nathan Fletcher, 35, was arrested later Wednesday on charges of aggravated reckless conduct, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and violating conditions of release, according to Sgt. John Preston, who is serving as interim chief of the Baileyville Police Department.
The victim of the alleged threat was not injured, Preston said.
Police initially thought Fletcher was in one of the rooms of the Downeast Motel — formerly known as the Boidi Motel — prompting them to form a perimeter around the business after the gunshot was reported around 9:40 a.m. But they later learned that the room was empty, and they found the suspect somewhere else, Preston said.
Police officers recovered the gun allegedly used in the incident, and most of them were able to leave the area by 12:45 p.m., Preston said.
The police response closed a section of Route 1 just east of the intersection with Route 9, also known as the Airline Road.
