As Memorial Day draws near, I can’t help but think of the thousands of kids who gave their lives to ensure our way of life.
Kids who never knew true love, kids who never had a legal drink or had the chance to fulfill their full potential, all gave their lives for us. I think of the families who lost these sons and daughters, I think of how they would feel if we were to allow what they stood for, and died for, perish. Could any of them have ever believed that we would one day have a presidential candidate who would essentially erase everything they gave their lives for, a guy who berates POWs, a guy who calls people who served “suckers” (not my words, his)? This guy, who openly admits his disdain for our democracy, our Constitution and our civil liberties, has millions of followers, people who would apparently gamble our freedoms on his lies.
Funny, everything he and this group represent, everything they preach and even some of their actions are all protected by the Constitution and government they seem to hate. Their candidate has even indicated that when his term ends, he might not leave office and he would target political opponents (his words not mine). For those who need a definition, I think he would be an autocrat, a dictator. We do have a solution: It’s called our vote. If people choose the lies, and give this guy their vote, I wonder if there will be a Memorial Day next year.
