The Holden middle school is under a boil water order.
Bottled water is available for Holbrook Middle School students, who also have been advised to bring their own water from home, according to RSU 63 Superintendent Jared Fulgoni.
That isn’t expected to affect food service at the middle school, which serves grades 5-8, Fulgoni said Tuesday morning.
“Any water they would use is boiled anyway,” Fulgoni said.
Fulgoni stressed that testing hasn’t turned up any contamination in the school’s water supply. The order was put in place because a pump that chlorinates the water broke down over the long Memorial Day weekend.
Chlorine is commonly used in public water systems to disinfect water and kill disease-causing germs like salmonella, campylobacter and norovirus, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Fulgoni expects the pump will be repaired in the next day or two.
In the meantime, water fountains have been turned off. That doesn’t affect toilets and sinks.
RSU 63 serves the people of Clifton, Eddington and Holden.
