I am writing to express gratitude to Bangor Daily News journalist Bill Trotter for his exceptional coverage of the planned Maritime Research Center at the Friend Memorial Public Library in Brooklin. His reporting has elevated the importance of our project, which will also renovate and expand the library to address pressing safety and maintenance needs. These include installing moisture control and ventilation systems; eliminating standing water in the basement; repairing windows, trim and gutters; replacing worn flooring, adding lighting and shelving; and repairing cracked walls and concrete paths.
Planned library improvements include enhanced handicapped access; larger areas for children and teens; increased space for collections, programs, exhibits and events; new technology areas; a new outdoor event and gathering space; and off-street parking.
Our enhanced library will serve as a vibrant hub for the entire community.
