A Hancock man was sentenced Thursday for assaulting an FBI agent last year.
U.S. District Court Judge Lance Walker handed down the sentence against 69-year-old Alan Howell Parrot in federal court in Bangor, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Parrot will serve two years of probation and pay a $5,000 fine. Parrot faced up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and up to three years of supervised release.
On June 22, 2023, FBI special agents executed a search warrant at Parrot’s home in Hancock during a search for possible sexually explicit material portraying minors.
While agents attempted to enter his home, Parrot tried to close the door on them and became combative. He kicked one agent in the abdomen, pushing her backward and injuring her arm and elbow, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
He was found guilty after a one-day jury trial on Nov. 29, 2023.
“Alan Parrot’s attack on an FBI special agent is yet another reminder of the danger law enforcement officers face on a daily basis — and the successful prosecution of Mr. Parrot should serve as a warning to all that if you assault and injure a law enforcement officer, the consequence is a felony conviction. Assaults on officers will be met with a swift response and will not be tolerated,” said Jodi Cohen, special agent in charge of the FBI division in Boston.
