The University of Maine has fired head softball coach Jordan Fitzpatrick, effective immediately.
The Orrington native previously played for the Black Bears from 2007-10, and has served on UMaine’s coaching staff since November 2015. Over the past three seasons as head coach, Fitzpatrick compiled a 29-117 managerial record, including a 5-41 campaign this year which ended on May 9.
A national search will begin immediately for Fitzpatrick’s successor.
“I want to thank Jordan for her service to the University of Maine and wish her all the best moving forward,” said Director of Athletics Jude Killy, in a Friday press release.
Fitzpatrick was UMaine’s pitching coach under Mike Coutts from 2015-21, an assistant softball coach at Bangor High School from 2011-15, and UMaine softball camp director from 2009-10. The Black Bears won the America East conference championship in 2016, but haven’t had a winning season since then.
A postseason victory on day two of the 2024 America East conference tournament was the bright spot of an otherwise brutal season, in which UMaine was outscored 333-123 overall and won just two of 24 games against America East opposition.
“I’m grateful for my time at UMaine and the relationships built with staff, players, and supporters,” said Fitzpatrick. “UMaine will always hold a special place in my heart.”
In 2023, the Black Bears went 16-39 overall, and in 2022 they finished 8-37.
