The first-year Bangor Babes opened their season with a pair of one-run road wins in a Greater Northeast Collegiate Baseball League doubleheader at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach on Sunday afternoon.
Both were seven-inning games.
Landon Williams hit a two-run double in the seventh inning of the first game to give the Babes a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Old Orchard Beach Bugs. In the nightcap, four pitchers teamed up to limit the Bugs to one run as the Babes triumphed 2-1.
In the opener, head coach Trevor DeLaite’s Babes spotted OOB a 3-0 lead but chipped away and took their first lead of the game on Williams’ double.
Alex Smith pitched four scoreless innings in relief to earn the victory.
In the nightcap, Williams singled in the first run before the Babes again won it in the seventh by capitalizing on a pair of walks and a passed ball.
Allen Wheaton allowed a run over the first three innings before Kyle Poissot came on and tossed three scoreless innings for Bangor.
Jack Morris got the first out of the seventh before Johnny Miles came on to register the final two outs, stranding two baserunners.
Bangor will play again on Saturday when it visits Augusta for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
