I am proud to endorse Sen. Peter Lyford in the Republican primary this June 11. Peter is the president and CEO of Peter A. Lyford, Inc., a hydroseeding and commercial landscaping company, and owns a TruGreen franchise.
As a businessman, I constantly worry that misguided legislators in Augusta are enacting new laws that make it harder and harder for small business owners to get by in our state. Peter stands up and fights against the burdensome proposals being pushed by out-of-touch elites.
One example of these dangerous policies regards PFAS. During the previous Legislature, lawmakers passed a law that required businesses to report the amount of PFAS in their products. Businesses across the state panicked. They had no idea how to comply with such onerous regulations. Advice from the Department of Environmental Protection provided little clarity.
As a member of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee, Peter is one of the first defenses against such overreach by environmental activists. In response to the PFAS law, Peter cosponsored LD 217, a bill that extends the reporting deadline for businesses by two years and allows companies to rely on information provided by suppliers, instead of requiring testing. LD 217 provides needed relief for Maine businesses. It unanimously passed the Legislature and was signed into law by Gov. Janet Mills.
Given his experience as a businessman and his record as a lawmaker, we know we can trust Peter Lyford to fight for Maine businesses when he goes back to Augusta.
