A nearly $3 million house with a private beach is for sale in the midcoast town of Northport.
That 336 feet of oceanfront is a real rarity along the midcoast, Brian Wickenden, the home’s listing agent with Legacy Properties Sotheby’s, said. This beach is particularly special, as it has unobstructed views of the islands of Penobscot Bay and Camden Hills. The ferry between Lincolnville and Islesboro passes by several times a day.
Though four or five neighboring properties also have access to the beach, Wickenden said it “doesn’t get much use” as many of those homes are seasonally used or rented out.
“On a beautiful summer day, you’ll probably see somebody out there,” he said. “But there’s plenty of space to share.”
The 4-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom home itself was constructed in 2017 in an updated version of the shingle-style design seen historically in coastal Maine, including slate and wide pumpkin pine floors, Wickenden said. It’s got a two-car garage, two porches, two fireplaces and an in-law apartment overhead.
It’s on a peaceful peninsula, but the property is only about 15 minutes from both Camden and Belfast. The current owners built the property as their home, but Wickenden said they moved soon after and have used it only as a summer rental for several years. Now they’re selling it.
Most people who’ve expressed an interest in buying the home since it was first listed last week would use it as a residence either year-round or seasonally, though someone could continue to rent it, Wickenden said.
“Going forward it’s more plausible, in my opinion, that it will just be someone’s summer home,” Wickenden said. “Most people in this price range are looking for a place to live.”
