DAMARISCOTTA — River Arts in Damariscotta invites artists to submit work to a juried show “Land & Sea”. The deadline for entry is Saturday, June 29 at 4 p.m. The theme “Land & Sea” is open to personal interpretation by the artists and may include realistic as well as abstract works. This popular summer show draws broadly on the Maine landscape.
River Arts is pleased to announce the juror will be Maine artist Tom Ferrero.
Ferrero began his career as a jeweler and metal artist. He began painting when he realized he wanted to work larger, use more color, and be more spontaneous. Ferrero says of his work, “While my work may be described as realism, the realistic quality is not what excites me; rather, it’s the coming together of the many separate brush strokes to form the overall image that I find so satisfying.”
Ferrero earned his undergraduate degree from Rochester Institute of Technology and a Post Graduate Diploma from the University of Auckland as a Fulbright Scholar. He completed his MFA at Indiana University and then spent six years teaching jewelry and metalsmithing at NSCAD University in Halifax, Canada, before settling in Maine. Ferrero has been honored with multiple awards.
Artists may enter either two pieces with a size limit of 24 inches including frame or one larger piece with a size limit of 50 inches including frame. For members the entry fee is $15 and for non-members it is $30. Artwork to be considered must be delivered in person during regular business hours. Entry forms are available in the gallery or on the website: riverartsme.org.
An opening reception will take place Saturday, July 6 from 2-4 p.m. The show will run through Aug. 10.
