Two people asleep in their Brewer home Tuesday morning escaped injury when a car crashed into their house and pushed their bed.
The couple was asleep around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday when a driver crashed through a large bay window of their Eastern Avenue home, said Chris Gonzales, brother of the homeowner.
Gonzales and three other people were boarding up the damage around 9 a.m.
The driver was not injured but was taken to the hospital as a precaution, Brewer Police Sgt. Amy Nickerson said.
The driver crashed into the Eastern Avenue home, which is at the corner of an intersection with a dead end street. It appears the driver stopped at the stop sign for the dead end street and turned right onto Eastern Avenue, Gonzales said. The driver kept turning and accelerated into the house.
The driver took out part of a white picket fence before they crashed into the bay window, somehow missing the support studs on either side of the window, Gonzales said.
The homeowners were sleeping in a nearby room when the crash occurred. The front of the vehicle hit the wall the bed was against, which then pushed the bed itself.
Cinder blocks along the foundation stopped the vehicle from going any further into the house.
“The big guy upstairs was watching,” Gonzales said.
