HARRISON — The style, intimacy, and tradition of chamber music dates back to the Middle Ages, but for those who appreciate the richness and acoustical balance of a small number of instruments played by world-class performers, it’s a classical form that will soon be on display at the historic Deertrees Theatre in Harrison.
Founded in 1972, the Sebago-Long Lake Music Festival aims to present and promote high-quality chamber music performances in the Lake Region. It has grown into a popular summer institution that offers a five-week series of chamber music concerts on Tuesday nights with a variety of instrumental combinations and familiar works balanced with lesser known ones.
For over 15 years, including in 2024, Norway Savings Bank is pleased to serve as the season sponsor of the festival.
“We’re proud to celebrate the festival’s long commitment to bringing live and vibrant chamber music experiences to Maine residents and summer visitors,” said Dan Walsh, president and CEO of Norway Savings Bank. “It has evolved from a small tribute to a storied form of music into a beloved summer tradition for many individuals and families.”
“Through concerts, outreach, and educational programming, the Sebago-Long Lake Music Festival has been able to reach people of all ages and instill in them an affection and appreciation for the timeless beauty of chamber music,” said Barbara Graustein, president of the Festival’s Board of Trustees. “The enthusiasm of Norway Savings to be consistent sponsors buoys our spirits and has helped us in a myriad of ways.”
The festival features the ongoing involvement of a core group of professional musicians representing strings, winds, basses, and keyboards. Several members perform with major orchestras across the country and internationally. Mihae Lee, who has played with the festival group since 1995, has also served as music director since 2016.
“We are so thankful for the continued generosity of NSB for the festival, the community it builds, and the artistic expression it encourages,” said Lee. “It’s gratifying to see the importance and magic of these concerts recognized and supported.”
