Renys has found a location for its planned expansion into Waterville.
John Reny, owner of R.H. Reny Inc., told the Waterville Morning Sentinel that he will open a location in the space being vacated by JCPenney in Elm Plaza.
JCPenney will close its Waterville location on Sept. 22, marking an end to its 40-year run in the city, according to the Sentinel.
The new Renys location will occupy 30,000 square feet and employ 25 to 40 people. It could open as soon as April 2025, the newspaper reported.
That would mark Renys 19th location following the April 5 opening of a new store in Bangor. The 31,000-square-foot space was formerly home to The Christmas Tree Shops, which closed last August. The Bangor opening was delayed a day by a spring nor’easter, but rain and snow didn’t deter customers from lining up for their Maine adventure.
