Dan Tremble will be the Democratic candidate for the vacant Penobscot County Commission seat in the November election.
Bangor City Councilors Joe Leonard and Tremble ran against one another in Tuesday’s Democratic primary. Tremble received 699 votes, while Leonard had 465 votes.
Tremble has said he would step down as city councilor if he’s elected in November. Leonard had said he was not sure what he would do if elected.
Leonard was reelected to Bangor City Council in November, after winning a special election in June 2022. Tremble spent 12 years as the county treasurer and 14 years on the City Council.
Tremble will run against Republican challenger Cary Weston, who served on the Bangor City Council from 2009 to 2012 and again from 2016 to 2019.
They will vie for the District 1 seat, which covers Bangor, Brewer, Clifton, Eddington, Holden and Orrington. It is held by longtime Commissioner Peter Baldacci, who is retiring after decades as a county commissioner.
