Bangor received license applications for more than 70 short-term rental units, such as Airbnbs, scattered across the city.
Applications for 74 units came pouring in last month after the city set a new rule requiring short-term rental operators to license their units.
The rule was created last year mainly to ensure the rentals don’t take up too much of the city’s permanent housing stock, which has been a challenge other Maine communities have faced.
While the city received dozens of applications, Anja Collette, Bangor’s planning officer, believes there are still a few unregistered short-term rentals, as she believes there are 87 Airbnbs in Bangor.
