A Massachusetts man allegedly threw a bag of fentanyl out of his car while fleeing from police in Brunswick over the weekend.
Hamet Badia, 29, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, has been charged with aggravated drug trafficking, unlawful drug trafficking, eluding an officer and operating after suspension, according to the Brunswick Police Department.
Badia was driving on Route 1 about 12:58 a.m. Saturday when a Brunswick police officer attempted to stop him for a traffic violation.
But Badia didn’t stop and sped away, Brunswick police said.
During the chase, Badia allegedly threw a paper bag out of the car, and eventually stopped on New Meadows Road.
Inside the bag officers found more than half a pound of fentanyl, about 12 grams of cocaine and about 10 grams of methamphetamine, according to the Brunswick Police Department.
Badia was taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland, where he was being held on $15,000 bail.
He was scheduled to appear in Cumberland County Superior Court on Aug. 20.
