The head of the regional VIP Tires & Service chain has listed his Falmouth mansion for sale at $7 million.
John P. Quirk, who was company’s CEO until 2020 and is now the executive chairman of the board, bought the property on Waites Landing Road in Falmouth for $1.3 million back in 2016, according to public records.
The 0.3-acre lot boasts a sweeping view of Casco Bay and has deeded access to a private deepwater dock, a mooring field and a sandy beach. Quirk’s massive 4-bedroom, 6-bathroom estate was built there in 2017, according to the property’s online listing.
Quirk is a third-generation tire dealer. He took over Quirk Tires — the company his grandfather founded in Massachusetts — in 1985. Under the younger Quirk’s leadership, the firm acquired Lewiston-based VIP in 2001. He led VIP to become northern New England’s largest privately held automotive service provider and tire dealer, according to Mainebiz.
The Falmouth home reflects that prominence. It’s 4,159 square feet and looks more like a hotel than a house, with waterfront views from each room. The property is in a flood zone, but its listing states that Quirk built a “home for the ages” with top-tier engineering and materials.
“The exterior of Western Red cedar, copper, stone, and Azek, has been built to withstand the test of time,” the property’s online listing reads. “Extensive hardscaping, sea walls, & drainage have been methodically planned out & installed by local experts.”
Some of the property’s amenities include a heated 2-car garage and heated driveway, two fireplaces, a breakfast nook with panoramic ocean views, a wet bar and en-suite bathrooms. There is an annual, $1,300 homeowners association fee with the property.
The property is located at the end of a secluded driveway, but is right by the Portland Country Club, groceries and restaurants and is a short drive from downtown Falmouth and Portland.
“The listing is a rare chance to own a signature waterfront property and experience the very best of Maine coastal living,” said Megan Dunn, a public relations associate with the home’s listing agency, RE/MAX By The Bay David Banks.
