SCARBOROUGH — Recently, Forbes released its listing of ‘Best In State Credit Unions’ for 2024 and Town & Country Federal Credit Union became the first Maine credit union to become a four-time recipient of this designation in the seven-year history of the rankings.
To create this seventh annual list, Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista and surveyed approximately 26,000 residents (including a portion in Maine) throughout the country. Participants were asked to name banks and credit unions at which they currently have (and previously had) a checking or savings account. They were also asked about banks and credit unions they know through friends and family. Respondents were asked if they would recommend those institutions to others and to rate them on such criteria as customer service, fees, digital offerings, financial advice given by representatives, and the trust the organizations inspired. Nationwide, a total of 207 credit unions and 185 banks made this year’s list.
David Libby, president and CEO of Town & Country, called the designation “an honor and indicative of our deep commitment to serving our members and our community. As with any designation, I would like to recognize the great work of our staff and board for the service, support and leadership provided to receive this type of recognition. At Town & Country, we are a team that all make contributions to serve our members and set a standard of excellence dedicated to a mission of helping to make a difference every day.”
This marks the fourth major award recognizing Town & Country FCU as a top financial institution in the past ten months. Previously, the credit union took top honors as ‘Best Credit Union’ in ‘Best of Portland’; ‘Best Credit Union’ in the ‘Best of the 207’ program; and ‘Best Home Mortgage Lender’ out of all Maine credit unions and banks in the ‘Best of the 207’ program. “Our focus on ‘Local Helping Local’ with financial services and community involvement and engagement is clearly resonating with our members and consumers at large in southern Maine. We are honored to be recognized for delivering on our mission,” Libby added.
As Maine’s second-largest credit union with 40,000 members, Town & Country is a full-service financial institution offering a wide range of financial products and services to people who live, work, attend school, or worship in Cumberland and York counties. In 2022 and 2023, Town & Country was named “Best Credit Union in the 207” and “Best Home Mortgage Lender, out of all Maine CUs and banks, in the 207,” and named “Best Credit Union” in the Best of Portland competition. It is also the only Maine credit union to be designated as one of Maine’s “Best Credit Unions” by Forbes in four out of the past seven years. The credit union has approximately $600 million in assets and is part of the largest branch network in the country. To learn more, visit www.tcfcu.com.
