The 2024 elections are quickly approaching and far too many election offices nationwide are already struggling with a dire lack of resources that makes it more difficult to ensure proper election administration.
Despite many election offices lacking the technology and equipment they need, election officials continue to find ways to do their jobs. Congress can and should help support these election workers and offices by increasing federal support to strengthen our nation’s election infrastructure.
Our election officials face increasing cyber threats as hostile nations look to undermine democratic systems across the world. It is imperative that we furnish our election offices with the resources to modernize outdated cyber defenses and train staff to ward off emerging threats like sophisticated ransomware attacks.
Congress can help election offices address the challenges they face by returning to the funding levels for election infrastructure that we saw during the previous administration, which hovered around $400 million. By recommitting themselves to robust funding for our election security needs, our elected officials in Washington are making a long-term investment in our nation’s national security.
