The federal government is investigating a Southwest Airlines flight that took off from a closed Portland runway this week.
Southwest Airlines flight 4805 took off from the Portland International Jetport about 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.
An airport vehicle was on the runway but exited before the plane took off.
Both the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the matter.
Jetport officials are cooperating with the investigation.
“We are grateful that airport staff maintained situational awareness, identifying in real-time the aircraft entering the runway environment and immediately vacating the airport vehicle from the runway,” Zachary Sundquist, assistant airport director, said in a Friday statement.
Sundquist said there would be no further statement because of the ongoing investigation.
Correction: An earlier version of this report misstated the airline involved in this incident.
