A tractor-trailer carrying a load of peat moss burned on Interstate 95 on Sunday night.
Jonathan Blackie, 45, of Newport was driving the white 2008 Kenworth on I-95 in Pittsfield about 9:32 p.m. when a brake on the trailer locked up, setting it ablaze, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Blackie managed to detach the trailer, which was loaded with peat moss, Moss said in a Tuesday morning email.
Firefighters from Pittsfield and Clinton battled the blaze on the southbound side of I-95, near mile marker 147, according to the Clinton Fire Department.
No one was injured in the fire.
