A train spilled 2,500 gallons of fuel in a derailment north of Bangor on Tuesday.
The derailment happened on the Mattawamkeag side of the town line with Winn, according to the Lincoln Fire Department.
A parked train car had rolled back off a side track onto the main track where another train collided with it.
The impact caused one car to overturn, while a second derailed. Both train cars were carrying paper products, according to the Lincoln Fire Department.
The crash also caused the train engine’s fuel tank to rupture, spilling 2,500 gallons of diesel fuel onto the ground.
Crews contained the spill, preventing it from reaching the Penobscot River.
