A 3-year-old boy was wounded on Tuesday in Sanford when he was shot in the hand.
Sanford police and EMS responded to a report of the sound of a gunshot at an address on Shaw Road.
There they found the 3-year-old with a gunshot wound from a pistol in his left hand, according to the Sanford Police Department, who said the boy’s father was with him.
The boy was brought to Maine Medical Center where he is being treated for the injury. Police said they found the pistol in the house.
Sanford police did not disclose anything else about the circumstances of the shooting but said the department’s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the incident and the public is not at any risk.
