I’m writing as a person older than President Joe Biden. I understand that my age carries some limitations, and I have no desire to be president of this country — or any institution, for that matter. But the hysteria about Biden’s age has long seemed to me to be just that: hysteria, as unfounded as the original definition of hysteria which had something to do with a woman’s womb coming loose and roaming around inside her.
Both presidential candidates are old. One is also a convicted felon, a serial liar, a misogynist, a man seemingly of no conviction aside from his own love of power, and one who surrounds himself with sycophants and bootlickers. The other, Joe Biden, is a righteous, empathetic, bone-weary, seasoned politician who surrounds himself with thoughtful advisors and tries to arrive at decisions that are good for others and not primarily for himself and his cronies. It’s not just the individual old man. They’re both old men. But I think one is venal and vicious, while the other is decent and trustworthy.
One old man isn’t the same as any other old man. Stop the hysteria and look at the bigger picture.
