Cooper Flagg is the lone collegian training with the United States Olympic men’s basketball team, and is making his presence felt on the court.
In a video posted by the NBA to Instagram, the 17-year-old basketball phenom from Newport can be seen making a backdoor cut to the basket for a two-handed jam, just moments after getting a midrange attempt at the baseline blocked by eight-time NBA All-Star Anthony Davis.
The highlight came from a scrimmage held at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas on Sunday, between the national team and the USA Select Team ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Flagg is the first collegian selected for the 15-man Select Team since 2013.
Joining Flagg on this year’s roster are Payton Pritchard of the Boston Celtics and 2024 All-Rookie first teamers Brandin Podziemski of the Golden State Warriors and Jaime Jaquez Jr of the Miami Heat.
Former USA Select Team members include 2024 Olympians Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers, who trained alongside the 2021 Olympic squad prior to Tokyo.
