Maine State Police are investigating the death of a child on Vinalhaven, according to Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
It’s standard procedure for the state police to respond to any child death in the state, other than in Portland or Bangor, Moss said.
More information was not immediately available. Moss said detectives may currently be on a boat, so she is unsure what information they have.
A call came late Wednesday morning with the report that a 1-year-old child was unresponsive, according to The Courier-Gazette. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Vinalhaven emergency medical department initially responded.
