The Coast Guard located the body of a kayaker that took off from Bar Harbor Saturday.
According to a statement from the U.S. Coast Guard, the kayaker departed from their residence in Bar Harbor at about 4:30 p.m. and was reported missing by 8 p.m.
A two-hour search of the area included a helicopter and boat. Rescuers located an unresponsive person matching the description of the missing kayaker floating in the water in a life jacket. Despite resuscitation attempts, the person was pronounced dead. The identity of the deceased was not released by the Coast Guard.
“We offer our sincere condolences to the family,” said Capt. Matt Baker, commander of the Coast Guard Sector Northern New England.
