NORTHPORT — Bayside Arts presents “Sunner, A Movie Made by Maine” on Sunday, July 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bayside Community Hall, 813 Shore Road in Northport. The event is free.
In this film, Henry Spritz of Bayside captures the beauty and hardships of Maine in the story of two young artists trying to memorialize the experience of growing up in a small coastal Maine town. Sunner won the 2022 Tourmaline prize at the Maine International Film festival.
“Sunner” (2022) is writer, director, and editor Spritz’s first feature length film. The film was shot in various Maine towns, but most prominently in Bayside village and on the water. Spritz will also discuss his current projects. There will be a post-screening Q&A with the artist.
Spritz is a filmmaker from Portland with 10 years of experience writing, producing and directing film and video content, including short and feature length, narrative and documentary films.
His short film “Oldtown” was a National Finalist and Silver Award Winner in the National YoungArts Cinematic Arts competition, and was the focus of a two-week solo exhibition at the Camera Club of New York’s Baxter St. Gallery in 2018. His work has received funding from the National YoungArts Foundation, Bowdoin College, and the Maine International Film Festival.
Spritz graduated with a visual arts degree from Bowdoin College in 2023, and is a co-founder of the Rolling Tapes Youth Film and Art Festival, which has been held in the Portland Museum of Art and Congress Square Park and has worked at the Maine Student Film and Video Conference as an instructor.
Bayside Arts, founded in 2016, presents programs of music, theater, film, dance and other arts each summer in July and August. For more information and a schedule visit www.BaysideArts.org.
